Emergents These are the known stable mutant human genotypes in the Nemesis Gate setting. The Emergents have not been established by any evolutionary process, nor are they descendants of a single progenitor. Their convergent abilities are one of the many mysteries that tax the 23rd Century. Where a genotype is noted as “Spacer only”, the effects of the Spacer adaptation have already been included in the list of mutations. Where noted as “Groundling or Spacer”, all mutants of that genotype gain all the stated mutations, and Spacers also gain the effect of the Environmental Adaptation (Low Gravity) mutation if not already listed. Shanghai: Arising from the irradiated East Asian Protectorate of the UN, these mutants have all of the rights, if not the respect, given to other UN citizens. Kabul: These descendants of Pakistani refugees and Afghans affected by fallout have begun to return to the Indo-Pakistan Protectorate. East Coast Abominate: Found in small, shunned communities in the wilder parts of the eastern North American seaboard, some of these mutants have emigrated to the UN state of Quebec to escape USH persecution. Martian Outcast: The USH has attempted to deal with the problem of the Abominate communities by large-scale roundups, highly damaging gene therapy, and exile to the Martian colonies. The mutants beginning to emerge from the cosmic radiation sleeting down on Mars tend to interbreed with these outcasts to a large extent. Antarctic Indio: Members of the mutant strain spreading rapidly through the Antarctic Republic sometimes emigrate to the UN state of Chile. Europa: The intense radiation trapped in Jupiter's mighty magnetosphere, as well as poorly understood energies loosed in the Angel Incursion, have begun to have a peculiar and disturbing effect on the citizens of Microsoft's capital world. Some of these mutants emigrate to other parts of Old Sol. Nemesid: Over more than a century of human occupation of Nemesis Base, under a succession of rulers, the long-term residents in the quarter known as Snaketown have begun to diverge from the human norm. Virgin Fellahin: The colonists who have had to fend for themselves on the irradiated Virgin II now form a well-known minority in Virgin Space's fleets. Some have returned to Old Sol to seek other employment. |
